Winners, Losers and What’s Next After UFC White House

UFC Freedom 250 Winners and Losers and What's Next

On Saturday night, history was made on the South Lawn of the White House. In the most unlikely setting imaginable, UFC Freedom 250 provided one of the most brutal, memorable fight cards in the promotion’s 33-year history. Every fight on the main card ended by knockout or TKO, the first time that’s happened on a full main card since the sport’s early days. Seven fights. Seven finishes. No decisions. The White House lawn turned red.

Let’s take a look at the winners, losers, and what comes next after this historic event.

Winners at UFC White House

Justin Gaethje

This is legendary stuff. After years of brutal wars, title heartbreaks and being counted out more times than anyone in the division, “The Highlight” Justin Gaethje finally did it at 37 years old. He didn’t just beat Ilia Topuria, he battered the undefeated Georgian across four rounds, forcing Topuria’s corner to stop the fight on the stool before Round 5. Topuria, who entered the fight at 17-0, left with the first loss of his professional career and is under medical observation with significant facial injuries.

Gaethje was supposed to be the guy that got walked through. The oddsmakers had him at 390+. But he came into the White House with a mission and left as the undisputed UFC Lightweight Champion. It is one of the biggest shocks in the sport’s history.

What’s Next for Justin Gaethje: The new champion was quick to shut the door on an immediate Topuria rematch after the fight on the post-fight show. “He’s in the hospital right now, and I’m not… I made him quit on the stool,” Gaethje said. The champion has also hinted that retirement discussions are looming, he’s repeatedly promised his mother he wouldn’t make any rash decisions immediately after a fight. If he stays active, Arman Tsarukyan appears to be the top contender waiting in the wings as the most logical first title defense.

Cyril Gane

“Bon Gamin” spoiled what would have been one of the greatest accomplishments in combat sports history. Gane picked apart Pereira with his surgical jab, dropped him with it, and finished the fight on the feet to become a two-time interim UFC Heavyweight Champion. This was a stunning and dominant performance from the Frenchman, who is now firmly positioned as the No. 1 heavyweight on the planet behind undisputed champion Tom Aspinall.

What’s Next for Gane: The path is clear, Gane vs. Tom Aspinall for the undisputed heavyweight title. Aspinall is currently sidelined with an eye injury, but the unification bout is what everyone hoping that happens before the end of 2026.

Sean O’Malley

The “Suga” Show is back! O’Malley looked sharp and confident against Zahabi, landing a slick counter left hand before closing the show with a 1-2 combination to score his first knockout victory since 2023. This was a statement performance on the biggest stage of his career, reminding the division that he remains a serious title threat at 135 pounds.

What’s Next for O’Malley: It looks like O’Malley is willing to wait to call his next shot, “I don’t know if a KO will put me in front of Merab. If it does, great. If it doesn’t, I’ll wait for them to fight and kind of go from there.” The current landscape points toward a bantamweight title fight against the winner of Petr Yan vs. Merab Dvalishvili, with O’Malley eager to reclaim the belt he once held.

Josh Hokit

Josh Hokit has been wildy impressive during his short time inside the Octagon, racking up four quick wins with three of those coming by finish. On Sunday night, in front of President Trump and the millions watching live, he went out there and put a hurting on Derrick Lewis for two rounds until the fight was eventually called. Now at 10-0 and firmly inside the top-5 of the heavyweight division, we could see Hokit fight for a title sooner rather than later.

What’s next for Hokit: While he may be looking for a title shot, it’s more than likely a unification bout between Gane-Aspinall that’s next for the title. This leaves Hokit on the outside looking in, he could wait for that title shot or take on Alex Pereira in a fight that everyone wants to see. Either way, the Hokit train is full steam ahead and there is no stopping him now.

Mauricio Ruffy

The Brazilian buzzsaw keeps climbing. Ruffy needed less than five minutes to stop a veteran like Michael Chandler, reinforcing his status as one of the most dangerous finishers in the lightweight division. Now 14-2 and riding serious momentum, Ruffy is knocking on the door of the top ten.

What’s next for Ruffy:

With Ruffy now locked into a top-10 ranking, the most logical choice is a top-10 opponent next. A date with Dan Hooker would keep Ruffy climbing the rankings and a fight the fans can definitely get behind. Either way, Ruffy will be looking to take that next step in his lightweight endeavors next.

Bo Nickal

Bo Nickal keeps rolling. The wrestling phenom improved to 9-1 with a brutal first-round TKO over Kyle Daukaus, continuing his methodical climb through the middleweight division. Nickal is becoming impossible to ignore, and a top-15 opponent is the only logical next step. If he can keep improving his striking like he showed last night to his world-class wrestling, a title shot may not be far off.

What’s next for Nickal: As stated, it is more than likely a top-15 opponent is next for Nickal. He tried to get a ranking next to his name when he fought Reinier de Ridder but ultimately failed. However, he’s now looking like a brand new fighter since then and a fight against someone like Roman Dolidze, who’s ranked No. 14 seems like the appropriate next step for the fast-rising contender.

Diego Lopes

The first fight of the night was also the first finish of the night, with Lopes setting the tone for an unforgettable evening. The Brazilian featherweight got off the canvas at the White House and now faces an intriguing crossroads. After two consecutive title shot losses to Alexander Volkanovski, Lopes has openly discussed moving up to lightweight, and a White House win makes his case stronger.

What’s next for Lopes: Lopes is in a tough spot because he’s lost to Alexander Volkanovski twice in his bid for the featherweight title, so a title shot is not coming anytime soon. As he stated, a move up to the lightweight division may be the right move not only for his career but for his health too, after making the weight cut to 145 lbs 30+ times. Regardless of who is next for Lopes, the fans will be in for a treat the next time he steps inside the Octagon.

Losers at UFC White House

Ilia Topuria

Topuria’s aura of invincibility is gone. The Georgian phenom, who had looked untouchable since bursting onto the scene, ran into a man fighting for his legacy on the biggest stage of his life. The first loss of his career is a hard pill to swallow, and with the extent of the damage sustained, he needs significant time away from the octagon.

What’s next for Topuria: Gaethje seemingly said that he doesn’t want to rematch Topuria, so he’s going to have to work his way back to a title shot. One way of making that happen is squaring off against Arman Tsarukyan, who’s been the No. 1 contender for quite some time. But ultimately, it looks like it’s going to be a while before we see Topuria back inside the Octagon after that brutal beatdown and the lightweight division will have to go on without him.

Alex Pereira

The dream of a three-division championship is officially dead, for now. Pereira’s quest to make history as the first UFC fighter to hold titles in three separate weight classes was derailed in spectacular fashion. The Brazilian slugger got outworked, outclassed, and finished in a fight many expected to go differently. At this stage, “Poatan” must decide whether to return to light heavyweight, where he could become a three-time light heavyweight champion, or continue his heavyweight experiment.

What’s next for Pereira: Things didn’t go quite as planned in Pereira’s heavyweight debut, as Gane was just too much for the former middleweight and light heavyweight champion. Now it’s up to Pereira to see if it’s too much for him to drop back to 205 lbs after the move up, and if so, who could be next for “Poatan”?

UFC Freedom 250 at the White House was a historic spectacle that delivered beyond all expectations. The crowd, including President Trump, witnessed seven straight finishes, a generational upset, a history-making bid denied, and multiple careers reshaped in one evening. The lightweight division has a new king, the heavyweight picture is set for a massive unification fight, and the sport of MMA has never looked bigger.
